Successful project delivery
SMEC consulted with the TMR to design a detailed 4-lane highway between the new section of the highway at Traveston and Woondum. SMEC’s detailed design provides safer road user conditions and improved community access, with the project being delivered four months ahead of the agreed schedule.
On the completion of the project, SMEC’s successful design provided enhanced long-lasting outcomes, whilst achieving cost savings considerations compared to the preliminary design. Delivering savings through improvements in alignments, earthworks, formation width, pavement and bridge designs, and expanding the use of wire rope safety barriers. Successfully working with TMR, SMEC agree on the inclusion of a recommended asphalt surfacing that would improve whole life cost and other beneficial outcomes.
The outcomes on completion of the project include:
- Realignment of 14 km of the Bruce Highway between Traveston and Woondum.
- Delivery of 10.5 km of new 4-lane highway
- Integration with two existing interchanges
- 13 bridges including major waterway crossing structures; and
- Q100 (1 in a 100-year event) flood immunity).
