Serving India’s sixth most populous city, the Chennai Metro is the third largest metro system in India, after Delhi Metro and Hyderabad Metro. SMEC is providing design services on two packages of Chennai Metro Phase

As a member of a Design Joint Venture, SMEC has been engaged as the Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) for the Civil, Structural, Architectural, MEP, VAC and Track works, including alignment and elevated sections, on Phase 2 of the Chennai Metro Project.

This includes approximately 27 km of elevated viaduct and 24 elevated Stations.

The metro system is being designed as a two track overhead catenary system capable of operating at a maximum train speed of 80 Km/hr. There are complex locations where the metro station design will need to support highway flyover at the first level, and metro train viaduct and stations at the second level. The design delivery also includes complex Rail Structure Interaction analysis as per UIC standards.

The entire project is being delivered to BIM L-300 standards.
