SMEC South Africa was contracted to provide Civil Engineering services for the new estate. The services include detailed design, implementation and co-ordination between all services.

This is a new build project that was initially proposed in 2003. The success of the Zimbali Coastal Resort, situated opposite Zimbali Lakes, has prompted the initiation of the project. It will be a mixed-use development and residential estate, built in two phases.

Facilities will include a resort, hotel, resort residential units, single dwelling units, cluster units, retirement village, mixed-use development, and an 18-hole golf course.

Construction work includes construction of streets, stormwater drainage system, sewer reticulation system, water reticulation system, earthworks and platforms, earth wall dam and concrete spillway, relocation of sewer and electrical lines, construction of appurtenant works, and location and protection of existing services.

The project will provide local employment during the construction phase. When complete, the resort will employ a range of maintenance, operational and hospitality personnel.
