The Mt. Elgon Self-Help Community Project is a not-for-profit community organisation which supports orphans and vulnerable children in Uganda.

The project runs training for children, caretakers, community volunteers and community leaders on various aspects of life using the Dulwich Centre Foundation’s ‘Tree of Life’ approach to working with vulnerable children (which encourages children to speak about their hardships). The SMEC Foundation contributed AU$5,000 to the project to develop training materials that document the ‘Tree of Life’ approach. The SMEC Foundation has previously provided grant assistance to the Dulwich Centre Foundation for trauma training for counsellors in Rwanda.
