In November 2021, SMEC’s Central Asian Republics & Caucasus Region team was officially appointed to supervise construction of an important road rehabilitation project in Tajikistan.

In November 2021, SMEC’s Central Asian Republics & Caucasus Region team was officially appointed to supervise construction of an important road rehabilitation project in Tajikistan.

A key part of Tajikistan Ministry of Transport’s Road Network Sustainability Project, our work is set to revitalise two road sections (at Dangara–Okmazor and at Hulbuk–Kangurt) in the country’s Khatlon region. Rehabilitating both sections is key to national connectivity and economic growth as they link with the AH66 International Transit Corridor and CAREC Corridors 5 and 6.

The project scope involves improving 130 kilometres of road surface, and construction of eight bridges and 80 culverts. Alongside supervising construction, SMEC’s teams will also consult on the project’s ecological elements; resettlement; road safety auditing; gender mainstreaming; and finances.
