SMEC is on the edge of completing Project Management Consultancy Services at Hospet – Hubli – Tinaighat electrification works. This electrification will contribute to nation’s vision to fully electrify its track by 2023 with the goal of “net zero” emission by 2030 by drawing its entire electrical load from renewable energy sources.

Overcoming challenges posed by the pandemic and nationwide lockdown, the team has successfully delivered all project milestones on time and within budget. SMECs team blended personal with extensive experience in the Indian Railway Service with young professionals imparting training skills to the youth in various trades to bring qualitative improvement.

Around 40km of the track passes through dense forest. SMEC provided teams with remote communication tools and safety protocols including a vehicle drop off service.

SMEC’s scope of services included design, supply, procurement, erection, and commissioning of:

  • 25 KV, 50 Hz, Single Phase, Traction Over Head Equipment
  • Traction sub stations
  • Switching Stations
  • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems (SCADA)
  • Associated Signalling & Telecommunication work
  • Civil engineering work for service buildings, quarters, sidings and electrical general services.

The SMEC Project Management Office continuously supported the site engineers with project management and value engineering solutions, which prevented cost overrun and contributed to a 12% increase in overall profitability. Further, building a great relationship with client ensured smooth processing of payments and invoices for all suppliers.
