SMEC Australia continues to support critical infrastructure in Western Australia through Causeway Pedestrian and Cyclist Bridges Project.

The Causeway Pedestrian and Cyclist Bridges Project will offer alternative transport options with greater connectivity. It will also enhance the natural environment and public amenities through the delivery of two cable-stayed bridges and a 6-metre-wide segregated path linking Victoria Park foreshore at McCallum Park with Heirisson Island and Perth’s CBD at Point Fraser.

The new bridges will alleviate growing pressure on the paths of the existing Causeway Bridge, which are utilised daily by more than 3,000 cyclists and pedestrians.

SMEC are providing expert Independent Verification services for the major design components including all civil and structural works, geotechnical, waterways, drainage, electrical, and utilities. SMEC are also working closely with the Causeway Link Alliance team to identify value engineering opportunities and undertake staging and constructability assessments.

The Causeway Link Alliance comprises Civmec Construction and Engineering Pty Ltd, Seymour Whyte Constructions Pty Ltd, WSP Australia Pty Ltd, and Main Roads WA.

“Construction of the Causeway Pedestrian and Cyclist Bridges Project is progressing at pace with completed piling in the Swan River (Derbari Yerrigan) and three bridge modules have been installed on the McCallum Park bridge. We are excited to be part of this iconic project for Western Australia, a vital investment in dedicated pedestrian and cycling infrastructure that will meet the increasing demand whilst ensuring safety and convenience for all”.
— Mark Johnston, SMEC’s Project Director stated

Additionally, SMEC are supporting Main Roads Western Australia with Halls Creek to Kununurra Bridges (Kimberley Bridges) and Mandurah Estuary Bridge Duplication as the Independent Verifier.
