The 27th Australia Fiji Business Forum, organized by the Australia Fiji Business Council and the Fiji Australia Business Council, is set to take place at the Intercontinental Sydney Hotel from 31 August to 1 September 2023. The event aims to strengthen economic ties and longstanding relationship between Australia and Fiji, and the Fijian economy’s resilience after COVID-19 and recent political changes in December 2022.

As a proud sponsor SMEC will be a key participant at the event, underlining SMEC’s commitment to fostering business collaboration, growth opportunities, and sustainable development in the Pacific region. Drawing on our expertise in infrastructure and engineering, our attendees will discuss the significance of private sector involvement in driving economic advancement.

 

Since its establishment in 1987, the business forum has evolved into a crucial platform for Australian and Fijian businesses and governments to convene annually. It facilitates constructive dialogues, fostering an environment conducive to business partnerships and collaborations. Attendees can anticipate a program with keynote addresses from senior officials of both governments, sharing insights into policy perspectives and future strategies.

 

SMEC’s involvement brings expertise in infrastructure development, renewable energy, and climate resilience to the forum. With the introduction of the A$2 billion Australia Infrastructure Facility for the Pacific (AIFFP), Australian businesses gain new avenues for participation in Fiji’s infrastructure projects and regional development.

 

The forum’s anticipated outcomes go beyond networking, aiming to enhance mutual understanding for potential economic growth between Australia and Fiji. It provides a platform for businesses to address concerns that can influence policy changes and streamline administrative measures, supporting bilateral trade and investment expansion.
