The 30th FIDIC Africa Infrastructure Conference took place from 26-29 May 2024, at Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre, Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

The theme for this year’s event was “Innovations and Infrastructure Development for Sustainable Projects”, featuring speakers representing various African nations. The Conference was officiated by Hon. Dr. Phillip Isdor Mpango, Vice-President of the United Republic of Tanzania.

 

SMEC proudly sponsored the event and was represented by Country Manager – Tanzania, Abdulkher Islam, Senior Transport Engineer Simon Miring’u, Site Utilities Location Engineer Seif Seif, Quantity Surveyor Bahati Mbambe, and Senior Highway Engineer Daniel Kabado.

As sponsors of the event, SMEC contributed to the facilitation of pivotal discussions and the promotion of collaboration within the industry. It is through collective effort that impending challenges can be overcome, forging the discovery of new prospects for advancement and innovation.

 

Hon. Dr. Phillip Isdor Mpango, Vice-President of the United Republic of Tanzania visited SMEC’s booth and invited the team for a short presentation which was aired on national TV. SMEC was also acknowledged for its contribution to infrastructure development across Tanzania, undertaking projects such as Dar es Salaam BRT Phases 1 and 3 which is currently ongoing, the Rehabilitation of Shinyanga and Sumbawanga regional airports, and the Preliminary & Detailed Design of the Zanzibar Urban Roads improvement. The Zanzibar Urban Roads improvement is currently the largest infrastructure project initiated in Zanzibar. The project includes the

 

FIDIC Africa brought together about 550 participants: engineers, government officials, contractors, suppliers of construction equipment and materials, and other stakeholders in the built- environment from the public and private sectors. The program included a two-day conference, gala dinner, colour night event, exhibitions, excursions, and tours.
