Convention
and
Exhibition

SMEC Tanzania were proud to be a sponsor at the 8th Tanzania Women Engineers Convention and Exhibition (TAWECE) on 3 August 2023.

This year’s theme of “The Power of Diversity and Inclusion in Engineering Workforce, ‘Women Perspectives” celebrated the achievements and contributions female engineers have made to the industry and to society. The convention aims to create awareness of the opportunities available for female engineers across Tanzania, as well as provide a platform to share knowledge and best practice insights.

 

SMEC was represented by Engineers Ms Airice Mushi and Mr. Daniel Kabado; Architect Ms. Awena Keis; Sociologist, Ms. Samira Sova; Project Administrator, Ms. Mary Mmari and Country Manager, Mr. Abdulkher Islam. The SMEC booth was visited by Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar, who officiated the event, and invited the team to give a short presentation to be aired on national television.

 

SMEC also received recognition for commitment and involvement in mainland Tanzania for major projects, including design scopes on Julius Nyerere Hydropower project, Dar es Salaam BRT Phases 1 & 3, Rehabilitation of Shinyanga and Sumbawanga regional airports, and in particular the Zanzibar Urban Roads improvement project, which is currently the largest single infrastructure improvement project to have been undertaken on the island.

 

While at the event SMEC also took the opportunity to highlight our commitment to gender incorporation within our organizations, and our promotion of women in Tanzania and across the globe, to ensure SMEC is an organisation of equal opportunity with women leaders. SMEC was proud to be awarded a plaque for our contribution and participation to making the event possible and successful from the Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar.
