Enhancing water supply and management in Colombo City
Built in 1886, the Colombo City Water Supply System is one of the oldest in Asia. While improvements have been made over time, aging infrastructure and rapid urbanisation had made it increasingly difficult for the National Water Supply and Drainage Board to operate and maintain an effective water system.

Water and Sanitation Services in eThekwini Municipality (Phase 3)
eThekwini Municipality, the largest city in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Province, is home to over 3.5-million people and approximately 200,000 informal households, some of which fall within the poorest communities in South Africa. Many of the informal settlements within eThekwini have little or no access to piped potable water and ablution facilities, and as a result, experience adverse health conditions.

Since opening in September 2024, about 50,000 motorists have been using Sydney Gateway daily. This has resulted in a 15% reduction in traffic in Mascot, with most motorist experience reduced journey times by up to 22 minutes when connecting from the Rozelle Interchange to Sydney Airport.

SMEC connects communities through country’s first six-lane bridge, Bangladesh
The new Bridge spanning the Madhumati river forms part of the wider Cross-Border Road Network Improvement Project. Spanning 690 meters the new road link reduces travel times for over ten regions and shortens the Benapole-Jessore-Dhaka route by 130 kilometers.

School Kitchen Storeroom Project
The School Kitchen Storeroom Project, made possible through the generous support of the SMEC Foundation and Busbridge Family, has brought about significant improvements in multiple areas. Four large storerooms were constructed adjacent to existing kitchens, addressing the critical lack of storage space, and providing a dedicated area for cooking utensils and non-perishable foods. This enhancement has not only improved functionality but also positively impacted the hygiene and food handling practices within the schools.

Improving access to resilient water supply for the Wom community and public beach, Papua New Guinea
In Wom, over 90 households and all visitors to the public beach now have safe, resilient drinking water. Supported by Busbridge Family, the SMEC Foundation helped improve access to WASH services through a pilot community in Wom village and public beach. This development created a blueprint that other districts in Papua New Guinea can utilise to improve WASH services and management.
