“Knowing the pressing need for a fast, reliable, safe and comfortable public transport system in Indonesia, we are pleased to be given the opportunity once again by the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation to deliver a project of this size and significance for the communities in the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Region.” said Allan Tandiono, Surbana Jurong-SMEC Regional Manager in Indonesia. “The chance to work together again with OCG on a major infrastructure project is exciting and we look forward to continuing our successful partnership.”
The total length of the Jabodebek LRT alignment is 43.3 km, and it will have 17 stations, including a depot. The project is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2022.
Previously, SMEC was engaged by the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation to supervise the fast-tracked completion of the Palembang LRT, ensuring that the commercial operation of the LRT commenced in time for the 2018 Asian Games which were co-hosted by Jakarta and Palembang. The construction of LRT systems in Palembang and Jakarta have inspired other major Indonesian cities to follow suit, including Bandung, Surabaya, Medan and Makassar.
