SMEC in the Solomon Islands
SMEC has operated in the Solomon Islands since 1977. SMEC’s first project in the Solomon Islands was design and implementation of a national training program for local personnel in road, bridge and air strip construction techniques and in equipment operation, application and maintenance.
Since then, SMEC has been involved in various projects including an institutional study into customs strengthening, an institutional study of the Ministry of Transport and Works, the Lungga power generation expansion project, gold mine access roads rehabilitation and construction, and a rural development program to increase the standard of living in rural communities. SMEC has experience in the Transport, Water, Energy and Education, Governance and Government Advisory sectors in the Solomon Islands.
